October 23 - 25, 2014, the 17th International Conference on Electrical Machinery and Systems (ICEMS2014) was held at Sheraton Xixi Hotel, Hangzhou.This conference is sponsored by China Electrical Technical Society, sponsored by Zhejiang University, sponsored by Japan Electrical Engineering Society Industrial Application Branch (IEEJ-IAS), Korea Electrical Engineering Society (KIEE) and National Natural Science Foundation Committee (NSFC), and supported by International Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Industrial Application Branch (IEEE-IAS).Professor Shen Jianxin of Zhejiang University served as Chairman of the meeting.

At the opening ceremony, Gu Guobiao, founder of ICEMS and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech on behalf of China Electrotechnical Society. Gu reviewed the development process of ICEMS, thanked China, Japan and South Korea for their great contributions to the development of the conference, and wished the delegates participating in the conference could benefit from it.Song Yonghua, executive vice president of Zhejiang University, Professor Ichiro Miki, Chairman of IEEJ-IAS in Japan, Professor Heung Kyo Shin, Chairman of KIEE-EMECS in Korea and Dr Blake Lloyd, Chairman of IEEE-IAS also attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

As a high-end platform for displaying latest scientific research results and exchanging academic information, ICEMS 2014 attracted more than 700 experts and scholars from 24 countries and regions, such as China, Japan, Korea, USA, UK, Thailand, Germany and France.Gu Guobiao, Rao Fangquan, Zang Kemao and Chen Qingquan, academicians of both Academies, Thomas Lipo, Dean Patterson, Chandur Sadarangani, Robert Lorenz and others attended the meeting.The conference also invited internationally renowned experts such as Ion Boldea, Frede Blaabjerg, Jacek F. Gieras, C. C. Chan, Yves Perriard, Robert Nilssen, Z. Q. Zhu to give keynote reports.

Since its founding in 1987, ICEMS has held 17 consecutive sessions and has a very high academic influence at home and abroad.A total of 1129 summary papers were received at this session, and 687 papers were selected after strict selection by 305 experts.35 Oral Sessions and 25 Poster Sessions were set up to conduct in-depth discussions and exchanges on motor system and its control, new energy technology, electrical transportation and other topics.

ICEMS 2014 not only attracts extensive participation from universities and scientific research institutions at home and abroad, but also attracts active participation from domestic and international industry.
